Expression of Interest - Accessibility Advisory Committee

February 26 2024

Are you passionate about creating an inclusive community where everyone has equal access to programs, services, and infrastructures? Do you want to play a key role in shaping the accessibility plan for the Town of Stephenville? If so, we invite you to express your interest in joining our Accessibility Advisory Committee.

What does accessibility mean? It means making sure that everyone, regardless of any differences or limitations they may have, can easily and comfortably access and use the same things as everyone else. This could be physical spaces, like buildings and sidewalks, or digital content, like websites and apps. It's about removing barriers so that everyone can fully participate and enjoy the same opportunities and experiences.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee serves a crucial role in helping our public body identify, prevent, and eliminate barriers to accessibility. Through collaboration and dedication, committee members contribute to the development of our accessibility plan and work towards making Stephenville a more accessible place for all residents and visitors.

As a member of the Accessibility Advisory Committee, you will:

- Provide valuable insights and perspectives on accessibility issues within our community.

- Participate in the development of our accessibility plan, ensuring it addresses the needs of all individuals.

- Advocate for the removal of barriers to programs, services, and infrastructures.

- Collaborate with fellow committee members and stakeholders to promote accessibility initiatives.

We are looking for 6 individuals who represent one or more of the following groups:

- Those with ‘lived’ experience of living with physical disabilities (wheelchair; cerebral palsy; spina bifida etc...)

- Those with emotional or mental health barriers

- Those with visual impairments

- Those with hearing impairments

- Representation from the ‘aging’ population (seniors)

- Members of the LGBTQ+ community

- Representation from the Indigenous community

-  A youth representative

- Those with a developmental disability

- Those facing barriers to housing/homelessness

We are seeking individuals who are committed to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in Stephenville. Whether you have personal or professional experience in accessibility matters, your passion and dedication are what truly matter.

The deadline to submit your expression of interest is Tuesday, March 5, 2024. If you are interested in making a difference and contributing to the accessibility efforts of the Town of Stephenville, we encourage you to submit your expression of interest in writing to Marissa Abbott, Recreation and Wellness Coordinator @ marissa.abbott@stephenville.ca by this date.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a positive impact in our community.
